What are some tennis things I can practice during the summer?

Oh - and can you recommend a good tennis racket for me? I'm right-handed, a girl, and a beginner. I've just been using my dad's old one.
I want to join the high school team when school starts again. I've only played tennis with my dad last summer, and for some of this one too. I know all the rules and everything, I just want to know technique, and helpful tips. What are some things I can do to practice? There's a couple courts nearby, and I can get a friend to help. : ) Thanks !

You can first start practicing against a wall. Draw a line on the wall about net high and try hitting the ball over the line with back and fore hand.

There are three important things you should remember before hitting a ball
1. Always remember to turn your torso before your hit a ball
2. Bend you knees and get under the ball.
3. Have a smooth flow while striking.
